SNCF TRAIN STATION
Are you coming to Rochefort by train? As soon as you leave the station, take the opportunity to look back at this splendid 1913 building, listed as a historic monument. The journey to the hotel will only take you 10 minutes on foot. You can also take the D1 shuttle. After a 3-minute journey, it drops you off about 3 minutes on foot from Roca Fortis (stop “Jardins de la Marine”).
SAINT LOUIS CHURCH
Located in a corner of the famous Place Colbert, the Saint-Louis church is an architectural gem. Built in a neo-classical style in 1835 by Félix Garde, the building imposes itself with its impressive silhouette, dominated by Corinthian columns and a triangular pediment. Currently under renovation, it is about to regain its former glory. And it’s less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

THE SPECIAL ONE
Signed Ferdinand Arnodin, it is the last transporter bridge in operation in France. Embark in its basket and enjoy an incredible panorama of the Charente from this metallic titan from 1900! Accessible 5 minutes by car or 30 minutes walk along the Charente on a car-free pedestrian route.
More than 370 meters long (more than the Eiffel Tower), the Corderie Royale de Rochefort was built in 1666 to make ropes for ships, and today houses the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a media library, and a museum space. Accessible 5 minutes walk.
Identical replica of the Lafayette Frigate, she was built in Rochefort from 1997 to 2014. She has since visited the United States, and the Mediterranean, among others. True emblem of Rochefort, you will find it less than 10 minutes on foot.
Mythical location for the filming of the film “ Les Demoiselles de Rochefort ”, the famous Place Colbert is accessible just 2 minutes on foot from the hotel. Go down our street, it’s straight!
Held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday mornings, the Rochefort market occupies Avenue Charles de Gaulle. Its covered halls make it an essential place to discover local products. You can reach it in 5 minutes on foot. Go straight ahead just after Place Colbert, you are there!

Famous Rochefortais writer recognized throughout the world, his house is a unique place in the world, bringing together his memories of travels in a disproportionate eclectic architecture. Currently closed for restoration (thanks to the Heritage Foundation), the house can be visited virtually at the Musée Hèbre de Saint-Clément (63 Avenue Charles de Gaulle). You can also stroll along the Pierre Loti route .
Set off to attack the famous Fort, boarding a boat from Fouras, just 20 minutes from our hotel, and spend a day exploring the island of Aix, a small crescent on the Atlantic, which brings together a 2-hour visit on foot all the possible panoramas (coves, cliffs, beaches, marshes, fort, lighthouses).

The smallest of the 4 islands of the Charentais archipelago, surprises with its position, at the end of the estuary. Accessible only at low tide by a submersible causeway, it will offer you, for an hour or two, a breath of fresh air from the sea, with a view of the Charente coast. Please pay attention to the tide times. Laurent will show you the best times to access it.
This 16th century city, nestled in the heart of the marshes and not far from the ocean, is surrounded by fortifications erected by Pierre d’Argencourt and remodeled by the famous Vauban. Stroll along its ramparts, visit the underground port, and stroll through the artists’ shops, while admiring the flight of storks, many of which have settled all around the “star of the marshes”.
FOURAS, ITS 5 BEACHES AND FORT VAUBAN
After Brouage, you will find that Vauban left us a lot of heritage. The Fort that bears his name, right in the center of Fouras, oversees one of the 5 beaches of the seaside resort and offers a breathtaking view of the islands of Aix, Oléron and Madame. And of course, summer and winter, Fouras is our “nearby beach” tip.
